Air conditioners are one of the major products of man’s innovative mind in order to live a more comfortable lifestyle. As the years go by, air conditioners evolve, not only have these wonders technology become more efficient, air conditioners have become quieter. One of the main disadvantages of some air conditioners is the noise. That’s because in some types of air conditioning systems, the condenser component is attached to the main unit. One way of cooling things down without the noise is by using split air conditioners.
Split air conditioners or split ACs are air conditioners that divided into two main components. These are the outdoor and the indoor components. Split system air conditioners are mostly found on commercial and institutional structures. The outdoor components are the composed of the condenser and compressor of the air conditioning unit. And because of this the noise level of split air conditioners are much lower compared to its counterparts.
The air conditioning system cools down the structure by processing warm air on its outdoor component and vents it out to the indoor component. The indoor component and outdoor components of a spit AC is connected by refrigerant coils and air handlers. These devices are responsible for the cooling of the air that was vented by the outdoor component. The outdoor component of a split air conditioner contains the compressor and condenser of the air conditioning system; while the indoor components (a single outdoor component is usually connected to one or more indoor component depending on the structure) are contains the evaporator/s and blower/s.
Split air conditioning systems come in various forms. One type of a split air conditioning system is the ductless split air conditioner. This type of split AC system negates the use of air ducts to distribute cool air into a building or structure. The difference between a ductless split air conditioner and split system air conditioners is that former (ductless) utilizes “spot cooling”. And also, ductless split air conditioners are much cheaper to install.
The biggest advantage of a split air conditioner is the reduction of noise. This is because the condenser unit of the air conditioning system is located outside. Another reason why most people prefer split AC is the small size of the indoor component and the flexibility of cooling independent locations or room/s of a building. Installation of ductless mini split air conditioners are fairly easy. The connections of the outdoor component to the indoor devices require a small hole for the conduits. Mini split air conditioning units don’t use air ducts, thereby preventing loss of energy which are usually associated when using split air conditioning systems that utilize air ducts. Energy losses that are caused by air ducts are said to have caused more or less 30% of energy usage just for conditioning.
However, proper installation for this type of air conditioning system is required. If the air conditioner unit is too large or placed on an improper located, it will only waste energy and become inefficient. Large air conditioners cost more than smaller ones and much more costly to operate. Installing a split type air conditioner is fairly easy compared to a central air conditioner system, however, they are much more complicated installing than a window type air conditioner. You will need a contractor to properly install this type of air conditioning system.
Like most electrical appliance, proper care and maintenance is needed to get the most out of your split air conditioner. If you are using a split type air conditioning system that utilizes air ducts, always remember that the air ducts will become dirty as time goes by. Dirty air ducts pose great risk on one’s health because harmful organisms can grow and thereby spread through dirty air duct.
In spite of the many numerous types of air conditioning units, air conditioners are made for only one thing, make man’s living environment cooler and comfortable.
